(raining)

M: (I was scared. I don't like this any more. My legs hurt. Don't want to move. I've left my shoes and bag at the hotel. No wallet. I can't go back home. What should I do?)

(Hey hey, ready for more fun? Let's go to the next place.)

M: That's Fukuda. Yeah, I can borrow some money from him and...no, I can't call him with this outfit.

F: Hirosue-san. What's the matter? We're going now.

H: I see a woman over there. She's acting strange.

F: Yeah, maybe she had a fight with her boyfriend. You'd better not be involved with someone like her.

H: But...

F: Now, go to the next store. Everyone, ready to go?

Yeah!

M: (He saw me, but ignored. It's the way of Fukuda. A woman sitting in the rain... I don't think I will give a hand to such a woman, either.

(shivering)

H: Are you all right?

M: Ah, he's the one with Fukuda.

H: I saw you just before, well, if you don't mind, I'll take you home.

M: (If I speak up, he will see I'm a man. That man also said my voice was strange. Ah...)

H: Huh...oh, I see. You'll write letters in my hands. She can't talk, I guess.

M: (That's right. I'm a woman who are not able to talk.)

H: She's lost her bag and wallet, so she can't go back home. I see. The last train is gone. I'll get a taxi. You don't need to worry about the fare.

(taking off his shoe)

You might not want to put on a man's shoe, but please put this on. You'll hurt yourself being barefoot. I won't get hurt with my sock.

M: (He's going to lend me his shoe?! Is he going back to home without a shoe but only a sock? Oh, that's a taxi.)

(peeling a piece of paper)

H: Write your address here.

(knock knock)

H: Excuse me. How much do you think it's going to cost to get to this address?

Driver: Well, about 5,000 to 6,000 yen.

H: Okay, so here you go.

M: (Hey wait! you have no money left in your wallet. What are you going to do now? There's no train today.

H: Oh, and one more thing. She can't talk, so if something happens, please ask her to write down.

Driver: I got it.

H: Well, I think you're okay now. I'm going to the other way, so take care of yourself.

(taxi moving)

M: (He's still staring at this way. He really was a good person. I didn't know there was such a nice man...)

.........................................

F: Hi, it's you, Matsuoka. Do you have something to do in the general affairs division?

M: Well, I was asked to come by my chief. so... (There! He is in the general affairs division as I supposed.)

M: Hey, what's his name? The man sitting at the corner.

F: He's Hirosue. I talked about him with you the other night. He works under me, though aged older than me. He really pisses me off. I'm irritated having him close to me, so I made him move to the corner of the room.

M: (What? Ah! He's coming this way. I've got to do something. But he might not recognize me. I was disguised as a woman the other night.)

H: Fukuda Shunin. I've compiled a report about Towa corporation.

F: Didn't I tell you to hand in the first thing in the morning?

H: It took longer that I thought. I'm sorry.

F: The same thing happened the other day, remember? Tell me if you can't finish in time. I have to change my plan.

H: I'm so sorry.

F: It's okay, you may go back to your seat.

H: Excuse me.

F: Heck. He can do nothing.

M: Hey, he's is your subordinate, but he's older than you. You should be a little bit considerate.

F: He deserves that much. So, what's your errand?

M: That's okay. It's not urgent. Later.

(slam)

F: Why did he get cross?

November 21, 2009: Good News / Bad News
[info]sjgames

The good news? If you ever watched Empire Strikes Back and thought, "I want a sleeping bag like Luke's tauntaun!" you're going to love ThinkGeek's latest offering. And at 67" long, it may even fit most adults.

The bad news? Where are you going to use it? You're certainly not going to take it camping, risking dirt or rips. And slumber parties are few and far between when you're old enough to remember Empire in the theaters. Of course, when has "I don't have a use for this" really stopped you from buying a bit of geekery, anyway?

Just call it a prop for your next Traveller game. That'll work.

The Apathy Coalition - $10.00
[info]shirtwoot

Our gang sign is thumbtips touching, pointer fingers extended: W-hatever

2nd place in Derby #121: Propaganda for Everyday Life, with 1031 votes!

I had a hunch she might be sympathetic to the cause. Something about her appearance suggested so. Maybe it was her ad-hoc hairdo, a collection of uncoordinated rubber bands tying down her hair with no regard for fashion, the way you might try to secure a tarp over a load of furniture in the back of a pick-up truck. Or maybe it was the constellation of lint that covered her wool jacket. Or maybe it was her laceless boots, which clapped around her feet like two big bells every time she took a shuffling step.

“Excuse me,” I said. “But I belong to a coalition of some of the most apathetic residents of this city. I was wondering if you might be interested in joining.”

“I dunno,” she answered. Except it wasn’t the words “I dunno.” It was just a closed-mouth groan-grunt noise, the tone of which she modulated up and then down, duplicating the little sing-song melody of someone saying “I dunno,” but without actually saying it, without dividing the grunt up with consonants, without even opening her mouth.

This girl, I knew, was truly one of us.

Wear this shirt: as a protective layer to keep your torso from imprinting with the pattern of the corduroy upholstery on your sofa when you lie there all day.

Don’t wear this shirt: if it’s going to be a hassle, like if you’re going to have to wash it, or if maybe it’s in your shirt drawer under a bunch of other shirts, because that sounds like a pain.

This shirt tells the world: “meh.”

We call this color: No One Really Ca-Red

Rings on her fingers
[info]gwyn_r
I am so not a jewelry person. I used to wear a lot of big outlandish stuff back in the late '80s and early '90s, but it got old fast. And I can't keep my ears pierced (infections never really go away), so earrings are a big pain -- I used to have to convert all my earrings to clip ons, and they never really aren't painful, at the end of the day. Jo mentioned that she noticed I don't, and asked me why I never wear jewelry recently. It's really just a lack of interest in accessorizing, I guess -- the kind of jewelry I'm drawn to costs money, because I like unusual, simple, and very handcrafted pieces without too much blinginess. I do like one kind of jewelry, bracelets, but more the cuff style of bracelet. That's probably one of the few things I'd actually want to have a few of, but again, the ones I like are $$$.

Plus, you know, the same money you pay for a ring or necklace or something that you would rarely have a chance to wear anyway could go for shoes, clothes, dvds, music, or BPAL. Which all makes it even less likely I'd want to spend money on it.

But I got the Sundance jewelry catalog today and OMG, I want these two rings, and I'm completely surprised by it. They're both really affordable, and totally my style, not ornate, soft colors, simple and handcrafted. The mabe one is a bit pricier, and the glacier one is so pretty, but it has those two little knobby things, which I don't know how comfy that would be on a finger. I don't even know what my ring size is -- I have one that fits my ring finger, the only jewelry I wear, but I can't tell what size it is comparing it on a ring chart. It looks like the 6 circle is inside the ring edge, and the 7 is dead on with the edge of the ring, so which one is right?

Every year, my therapist encouraged me to buy a present for my sister on our birthday, to do just what I would do normally only keep it for myself and then I would feel better about the day -- I was doing something for her still. I never have done that, but this is totally what I would have gotten for her. She loved jewelry, and was totally a silver girl like me, and what she did have I almost universally liked. Maybe I should do a Jeremiah and write a card for her and burn it.

OTOH, I shouldn't spend money on something that frivolous now, so you all should probably do me a big favor and talk me out of it, 'kay?

Kelly axes wedding until fiancé can drink
[info]rescueme_fromme wrote in [info]ohnotheydidnt

Kelly Osbourne may have given up the bottle - but she is adamant her fella should be allowed a drop. So much so that she has shelved her wedding until 2011 so fiancé Luke Worrall is old enough to drink in the US.

Kelly - six years older than her 19-year-old boyfriend - was expected to tie the knot early next year. He has already spent thousands on a diamond engagement ring.

But Kel told TV Biz she would be waiting until Luke hits 21, the legal age for drinking in the US, which isn't until Boxing Day next year.

She said: "Luke and I are engaged and we'll get married when I want to. But he isn't even 21 yet, so he can't drink in America, so what's the point in getting married until he can?"

And Kelly admitted she was worried she may soon be back on the booze herself - despite having been sober for months.

She is currently starring in Dancing With The Stars - the US equivalent of Strictly Come Dancing, which airs on UK digital channel Watch on Fridays.

Kelly is one of the show's hot favourites but despite her success she still fears she will take up drink and drugs once the show ends in December.

She said: "When I'm busy and not left with me in my own head, I'm fine. I worry about when the show stops - slipping back into negativity, drink and drugs. I'm taking precautions so I won't get in that position. My life when I drink is so dark and miserable."

Kelly - daughter of rocker Ozzy - has been off the booze and drugs since February after her last spell in rehab.

She sought help after downing up to 60 powerful painkillers a day, washed down with spirits.

The star, who would often drink a bottle of vodka in one sitting, said: "People get drunk and they think they're having the time of their lives, but they could have just as much fun if they were sober. If most people asked themselves why they drank, they probably wouldn't have an answer."

She is in regular touch with junkie pal Amy Winehouse - and revealed the singer still struggles to live a clean life.

Kelly added: "Everybody has their own journey and path in life and you can't choose theirs for them, but you can give guidance. I'm not a preacher but if I can share my experience with someone, I will. But people won't get sober or clean unless they want to."

US Supreme Court supports censoring books

I did some follow-up on the second story in US peddling yet more lies about Cuba, about the US Supreme Court supporting censorship. It's true:
"It is a sad day for free speech in our great nation," said JoNel Newman, ACLU of Florida Cooperating Counsel. "This is a dangerous precedent, and a huge leap backwards in the battle against censorship. The aftershocks may be felt in public school libraries across the country. "
